MLD for Lymphoedema
Manual Lymphatic Drainage
30, 60, 90 mins
Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) is a system of gentle, rhythmic, light-touch skin movements and pumping techniques that stimulate lymph flow and help the lymphatic system to function more efficiently.
Your lymphatic system may be damaged, have omissions, or have reduced functionality. This may be due to a variety of reasons, e.g. venous insufficiency, burn, bite or injury, cancer treatment and node removal.
The treatment aim is to decongest and reduce oedema of the affected limb(s) and surrounding area. This is achieved through stimulating and training the lymph drainage to use alternative pathways that are working more effectively.
Treatment has two phases: management decongestive phase & maintenance.
I am a specialist Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) Therapist. I trained in the Vodder Technique, and advanced practical and theoretical studies enable me to treat and support people with Lymphoedema (primary, secondary, venous insufficiency, etc). My training also included Decongestive Lymphatic Therapy (DLT) bandaging and compression. I undertake a comprehensive consultation with each new client, to understand the presentation, complexity, issues, concerns, and their journey to date. This allows us to build a treatment plan that is as unique as you are.
